Qudsia
Qudsia Begum (also Kudsiyya ; * 1801 ; † December 17, 1881 ) was regent of the princely state of Bhopal .
In 1819, the 18-year-old Qudsia Begum (also known as Gohar Begum) took over the reign of Bhopal after her husband was murdered. She became the first female regent of Bhopal. Despite being illiterate, she was brave and refused to follow the Parda tradition. She decreed that her two-year-old daughter Sikandar Jahan should follow her as regent. None of the male family members dared to question their decision. She built the Friday mosque in Bhopal. She also built a beautiful palace, the Gohar Mahal . She ruled until 1837.
