The Queen's Rangers , also known as Queen's American Rangers or later Simcoe's Rangers , were a military unit that fought alongside the Loyalists in the Seven Years' War and the American War of Independence .
Seven Years War
In the Seven Years War, the French and British fought for territories in North America . The French allied themselves with the Indians , who used guerrilla tactics. This tactic proved extremely effective against the regular British soldiers who were not prepared for it. Robert Rogers , who as a scout had a lot of experience with irregular warfare, recruited soldiers from locals and trained them in this warfare and set up the Queen's Rangers , at that time also known as Rogers' Rangers .
American War of Independence
When the American Revolutionary War broke out in 1775, Robert Rogers was recruiting troops in New York (mainly Long Island and Westchester ). This troop was created in honor of the wife of George III. Named Queen 'Loyal Virginia Regiment . Rogers later left the unit and on October 15, 1777, John Graves Simcoe was given command. He took part in the so-called Philadelphia Campaign from 1777 to 1778, which included the goal of getting Philadelphia under the control of the loyalists. Simcoe had great success, which is why some called the Queen's Rangers Simcoe's Rangers.
Film adaptations
The Queen's Rangers play an important role in the American history series Turn: Washington's Spies , which deals with the espionage association Culper Ring , which is under George Washington's command .
