Parish Church of St Peter, Quernnmore

Quernmore is a place and a civil parish in Lancashire , England . The civil parish, which is just 5 km east of Lancaster , has 521 inhabitants (2001). Quernmore is outside the historic Forest of Bowland but within the Forest of Bowland's Area of ​​Outstanding Natural Beauty .

In the 18th century and 1970, Roman pottery kilns and pottery shards were found in the area of ​​Quernmore, which indicates a Roman settlement.

On the western slope of Clougha Pike , which lies in the east of the village, millstones for hand turning mills (also called Quern ) were quarried in a quarry that is still visible today.

The River Conder flows through Quernmore and there are two more watermills in the area.

The parish church of St Peter is isolated north of the village of Quernmore. The church was built in 1860 by architect Edward Graham Paley on behalf of William Garnett, the owner of Quernmore Park Hall. The church is now a listed building and is listed by English Heritage as a Grade II listed building .
