Quintus Iallius Bassus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quintus Iallius Bassus was a Roman politician living in the 2nd century AD . Possibly he is identical to Marcus Iallius Bassus Fabius Valerianus (full name form Marcus Iallius Marci filius Voltinia Bassus Fabius Valerianus ), whose career is known from an inscription found in Alba Helviorum .

Iallius Bassus was inscribed in the Voltinia tribe . The inscription shows that he was praetor and legatus legionis of Legio XIIII Gemina . By military diplomas that are dated 27 September 154 8 February and 157, there is evidence that he 154-157 governor ( Legatus Augusti pro praetore ) province inferior Pannonia was; he is also evidenced by inscriptions as governor of the province. Through further diplomas, e.g. Some of them are dated July 8th 158, it is documented that Bassus 158 was a suffect consul with Marcus Servilius Fabianus Maximus .

On December 14th, 161 he was registered as curator operum publicorum . Two inscriptions prove that he was governor in the province of Moesia inferior after his consulate . The inscription with his career shows that he then accompanied Lucius Verus on his campaign against the Parthians ( comes Augustorum Parthicae expeditionis ) and was ultimately governor of the province of Pannonia superior .

Remarks

  1. Whether it was Quintus Iallius Bassus and Marcus Iallius Bassus Fabius Valerianus to a single person or two different people is disputed. In the military diplomas of 158 he is listed as Quintus Iallius Bassus , in the other diplomas, however, only as Iallius Bassus . The scenario given here assumes that there was a single person with different names.
