Enrique Álvarez Sanjuán , called Quique Álvarez (born July 20, 1975 in Vigo ) is a former Spanish football player .

Player career

The beginnings

The native Galician Quqiue Álvarez comes from the youth of FC Barcelona . He then played for the C and later for the B team. He was also used for the A-team of the Catalans, but only in a single game during the 1995/96 season. Although he did not make the breakthrough at Barça, his training there helped him to make the leap into professional football, as Barça B played second-rate in the mid-1990s. After the relegation of his team Quique Álvarez went on loan to league rivals CD Logroñés , where he was regularly used. The move to UE Lleida in 1998 also meant the jump from a relegation candidate to one of the favorites for promotion. Even though he played almost all games at Lleida and also scored his first two professional goals, Álvarez failed both times on promotion with the Catalans.

Villarreal and Recreativo

In the summer of 2000 Quique Álvarez went to Villarreal CF , which last year was promoted to the first Spanish league for the first time. It should be the best time of his career. He played twice in the UEFA Cup with the Eastern Spanish and also made a name for himself in the 2005/06 Champions League season when he and his team reached the semi-finals.

In the summer of 2007, the former captain Villarreals left the club heading south to sign with Recreativo Huelva . In previous years, the service provider was used less and less. After he relegated in the 2008/09 season with Recreativo as bottom of the table and was only used in the last game of the season, he ended his career.

Others

His father Quique Costas was also a soccer player. He played for Celta Vigo and FC Barcelona , among others . As a coach, he coached Barcelona B from 1989 to 1996, where he also coached his son Quique Álvarez.
