Carl Knott

Carl Knott (born June 16, 1892 in Munich ; † November 13, 1987 there ) was a German engineer and manager .

Life

Knott passed his school leaving certificate at the Oberrealschule in Munich in 1911 and was accepted as a military fox in the Corps Germania immediately after receiving it. Then he joined the 1. Royal Bavarian as a one-year volunteer . Foot Art.-Rgt. and then began studying electrical engineering at what was then the TH Munich . The studies were interrupted by the outbreak of war in 1914, followed by four years of military service on the Western Front, most recently as lieutenant and battery leader of a mortar battery.

After the war, Knott resumed his studies and graduated in 1920. He gained his first professional experience as a designer at Siemens-Schuckert-Werken (SSW) in Nuremberg. He then became the first assistant at the chair for electrical engineering (at that time Professor Ossanna) at the Technical University of Munich, where he also passed his doctorate in 1924. from. In 1925 Knott married the first German graduate engineer, Ilse ter Meer (1899–1996); the marriage gave birth to two sons.

Knott worked for the company Garbe, Lahmeyer & Co. in Aachen until 1929, most recently as technical director, after which his professional path led him back to the Siemens-Schuckert works, first in the mining department in Berlin, then as plant manager Erlangen and Nuremberg. In 1950, Knott gave up the management of the three Nuremberg plants and took over the management of the central plant administration in Erlangen. In this role he was responsible for all global production sites on the SSW board.
