Abbot Quirin Mickl

Quirin Mickl SOCist (born May 13, 1711 in Ostrolovský Újezd , † February 23, 1767 in Hohenfurt ) was abbot of the Hohenfurt Monastery .

Life

Quirin Mickl was the most learned Hohenfurter Abt. Even before his monastery entrance (1731) for bachelor doctorate of philosophy, he later acquired doctorates in theology and both laws (civil and canon law). After his ordination in 1734 he taught philosophy in the monastery and was then professor of theology at the St. Adalbert College in Prague until he was elected abbot on December 28, 1747.

As a lawyer, he was able to successfully defend several of the monastery's rights, which were contested by various sides, above all to occupy the parishes with monastery priests, and in connection with this, in 1749, to prove to the state authorities the legality of the monastery ownership. In the monastery he had the library wing built and the archive set up. He also set up a collection of natural objects, antiquities and coins and a picture gallery. In 1759 the monastery celebrated its 500th anniversary.

Numerous philosophical and theological disputations, specifically dedicated to him, bear witness to Abbot Quirin's high reputation at home and abroad. His own handwritten estate comprises 48 folio volumes and more than a hundred quarters of which the most important work is a 33-volume encyclopedia on philosophical and theological pamphlets.
