The so-called Quitzowhaus is a half-timbered house from the Renaissance in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel and a monument .

history

The Quitzowhaus was 1577-1578 in with brewing justice equipped corner parcel Bäckerstraße / Schuster street in the old town of Brandenburg built over a pre-existing double cavity basement. The address of the building is Bäckerstraße 11. The house is the only surviving half-timbered house of the Renaissance building era, which is equipped with decorative half-timbering of Lower Saxony characteristics, in Brandenburg. This half-timbered structure is only visible on the facade in Schusterstrasse. The facade facing Bäckerstrasse was structurally changed in the early 19th century and, like many half-timbered buildings in the city of Brandenburg, plastered in the late 19th century or before 1912. A stone Renaissance portal was lost.

The origin of the name Quitzowhaus, which alludes to the old Brandenburg noble family of the Quitzows , is not documented.

Building

The two-story building is traufständig for bakery and gable constantly to Schusterstraße. The facade facing Bäckerstrasse is plastered in gray. Decorative elements are a cornice , which visibly separates the floors from the outside, and a simple eaves cornice. The portal is round arched and branches off a triangular roof . It is reached via two stone steps. In addition to the portal, there are two further entrances to shops. The rectangular windows have a profiled border.

The facade on Schusterstrasse has been preserved in its old condition. The framework is unplastered there. Striking features are several colored, carved fan rosettes , collar beams , St. Andrew's crosses and profiled wooden beam cornices between the floors. There is a gate entrance to the courtyard in a short side wing towards Schusterstraße . The rectangular windows worked into the framework are simple. The simple gable roof is covered with simple roof tiles.
