The Quwwat as-Sanadid ( Arabic قوات الصناديد, DMG Quwwāt aṣ-Ṣanādīd 'Forces of the Brave') is the militia of the Sunni - Arab Shammar - tribe in Syria led by Sheikh Humaidi Daham al-Hadi . The militia was founded in 2013 and fights against the terrorist organization Islamic State during the civil war in Syria . Its commander is Sheikh Bandar al-Humaidi, a son of the tribal leader. According to its own information, it includes around 4,500 fighters. The tribe inhabits the areas around Til Koçer (al-Ya'rubiyya) and Dschaz'a in Al-Hasakah Governorate , which since 2013 part Rojavas is. Rojava is a self-governing area within Syria that arose in the course of the civil war and whose idea is also supported by Al-Sanadid. The As-Sanadid is fighting together with the Kurdish People's Defense Units (YPG) and Christian militias against IS and was able to recapture large areas of eastern Syria.
In October 2015, it formed with the YPG, the Sunni-Arab Army of Revolutionaries (Jaish ath-Thuwwar) and the Assyrian - Aramaic Military Council of the Syriacs (MFS) as well as other units to form the Syrian Democratic Forces .
