The Chênaie-des-Îles-Finlay reserve is located on Finlay Island at the far west end of Lac Coulonge, not far from Waltham . It harbors a deposit of oak, which is characterized by large leaves ( Quercus macrocarpa ), and at the same time a number of sand islands that are typical of the Ottawa River area. Six species of larger mammals were found, namely squirrel , black bear, beaver, muskrat and white-tailed deer and raccoon. There are also four other types of small mammals: American short-tailed shrews , American masked shrews , Zapus hudsonius and white-footed shrews .
