The Río Cachapoal is a river in central Chile in the VI Región del Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins .

The Río Cachapoal rises north of the 4008 meter high Yeso mountain in the Andean Cordillera . The river has tributaries from the Río Cortaderal , Río Blanco and Río Coya . It reaches the great thermal springs Termas de Cauquenes and then flows through the capital of the region, Rancagua . Finally it flows into the 80 km² large reservoir Lago Rapel .

In addition to the water supply, the rivers and reservoirs mainly serve to generate energy.

history

The Incas settled in a place called Copequén near Rancagua. This settlement was subordinate to the Inca in Cuzco. In 1580 the Spaniards decided to found a city using the Rancagua doctrine.

economy

The area around the Río Cachapoal is very agricultural. Mainly grapes, apples, sunflowers, tobacco, tomatoes and corn are grown. In addition to agriculture, Boldos and Pellin beeches ( Nothofagus obliqua ) grow in the area . The copper mining plays an important role (eg. As El Teniente -Bergwerk).
