The Río Cosanga is a 55 km long right tributary of the Río Quijos , the upper and middle reaches of the Río Coca , in northeast Ecuador .
River course
The Río Cosanga rises at an altitude of about 3900 m in the Cordillera Real , 10 km south-southeast of the Antisana volcano . The headwaters are in the Antisana nature reserve . The headwaters of the Río Quijos are a few kilometers further north. A ridge separates the two upper reaches. The Río Cosanga initially flows 25 km in an easterly direction. Then he turns north. At river kilometer 15 the river passes the municipality of the same name, Cosanga . The E45 trunk road follows the course of the river from Cosanga and turns west to the town of Baeza just before the confluence . The Río Cosanga finally flows into the Río Quijos between the two villages of Baeza and San Francisco de Borja .
Hydrology
The Río Cosanga drains an area of 500 km². Three kilometers above the mouth, the mean discharge is 49.3 m³ / s.
