The Río Escalante is a river in northwestern Venezuela . It rises in the Andes at 3,350 meters in Táchira and flows through the states of Táchira, Mérida and Zulia . It flows into Lake Maracaibo with two arms .

The river arises from the Río San Mate and is fed by the tributaries Río Onia , which has its origin in the Onia Reservoir, and the Río Morotuto .

The cities of Santa Cruz del Zulia , Santa Bárbara del Zulia and San Carlos del Zulia are located on the Escalante.
