The Río Eume is a coastal river in northern Galicia . It rises in the Sierra de Xistral in the province of A Coruña . The river has two headwaters , Toxeiras and Lamoso . Both arise at a height of 920 m at the foot of the 1,032 m high Monte Xistral . From the junction of the two streams at an altitude of 760 m the river is called Eume .

On its way, the Río Eume feeds two reservoirs: the Encoro da Ribeira and the Encoro do Eume . Below it it flows through the Fragas do Eume Natural Park .

It rises in the municipality of Abadín in the Parroquia Montouto, crosses the areas of the municipalities of As Pontes , Monfero and A Capela and flows into the Ría de Ares , one of the Rías Altas on the north coast of Galicia, in the municipality of Pontedeume .
