Buildings
Parish Church of Santiago
Fernando de Andrade had the large chapel with the sacristy built in the first third of the 16th century. The dome is decorated with stars. Below is a statue of the seated St. James ( Santiago ) made of colored granite, made at the end of the 16th century. The Renaissance - altarpiece next to him was made in 1530 and 1564 expanded and gilded. Stylistically, the altar paintings from the Passion cycle belong more to the Flamboyant Gothic than to the Renaissance.
The rest of the building was built under the patronage of Archbishop Santiago Bartolomé Rajoy from 1756 to 1763. The facade with its two towers is an outstanding building of the Galician Baroque .
Andrade Tower
The 18 m high and 11.5 m wide Torreón de Andrade now houses the center for information about the Princely House of Andrade. It is the only remnant of the Andrade Palace that closed off the city wall to the east. This palace may have been built in the late 14th century. In 1905 it became the property of the city. In 1911 part of it was demolished to make way for the construction of Avenida de Lombardero . In 1936 the rest disappeared, possibly because the Praza do Conde was to be enlarged.
Andrade Castle
The Andrade Castle on the heights of Nogueirosa was built in the 13th century.
old citywall
The old city wall with nine towers and five gates stretched along the seashore. She joined the palace, walked along what are now Calle Picho and Calle Tafona, and then down to the Convento de Santo Agustín , where it enclosed a fountain. It continued to the courtyard of the parish church of Santiago, to which the Postigo Gate ( Puerta del Postigo ), built in 1609, was attached. At this point the remains of the old city wall have been preserved.
