Fisterra (official name, in Spanish Finisterre ) is a place in the province of A Coruña of the Autonomous Community of Galicia .

The municipal association also includes the municipalities: San Xoán de Sardiñeiro, San Martiño de Duio, San Vicente de Duio and Nosa Señora das Areas Fisterra. It is 108 km from A Coruña , 98 km from Santiago de Compostela , 13 km from Cee and 54 km from Muros .

history

Historically, Cape Fisterra was considered to be the western end of the world. The relevance of this place was emphasized in the different epochs, religions and cultures with places of worship and underlined with legends. The Romans called the promontory, the end of which is the cape, Promontorium Nerium and built an Ara Solis , an altar dedicated to the sun.
