Ponte Maceira is a hamlet in the Parroquia Portor in the province of A Coruña in the autonomous community of Galicia , administratively it belongs to the municipality of Ames .
The historical ensemble of the place consists of the partly medieval buildings, an old mill and its weir, a modern manor house and the medieval bridge over the tambre , from which the place name goes back.
This bridge was built in the 13th century over the foundations of a Roman bridge. It spans the river with five large and two small arches. Its relevance arises from the fact that, in the absence of other safe crossings, it was an obligatory transit point on the way from Santiago to the sea as well as for the extended Camino de Santiago to Fisterra .
After this Camino a Fisterra was marked again in the 1990s, the bridge is again an integral part of the Jacobean route to the sea.
