Since it is becoming more and more popular in the Premier League to sign young foreign talents at an early stage in order to save on any high transfer fees, he was brought to England for Liverpool at the age of 18 .

In his only season with the north of England, in which he was almost exclusively on the reserve team, he was substituted on in a UEFA Champions League qualifying match for his compatriot Fernando Morientes, making him the youngest foreigner in the club's history to play in an official game for the first team competed. His big dream of a regular place with the Reds did not come true.

Antonio Barragán was sold to Deportivo La Coruña in the summer of 2006 for £ 680,000 . Over the next two to three years, Liverpool FC can buy back the player for a payment of £ 475,000.

After he was no longer used in the 2008/09 season at La Coruña, he moved to Real Valladolid in the summer of 2009 , where he signed a three-year contract. He remained loyal to his club even after it was relegated to the Segunda División in 2010. After missing out on promotion back to the 2010/11 season Barragan moved in 2011 back to the Primera División and joined the FC Valencia on.

After 5 years at Valencia FC , Barragán went to England to Middlesbrough FC , where he stayed for a year and moved again to Spain in the summer of 2017, this time to Betis Sevilla . The transfer was initially only intended as a one-year loan, but Betis withdrew the purchase option, which ties the right-back to Real Betis beyond June 2018.
