Emerson (born January 14, 1999 in São Paulo ; full name Emerson Aparecido Leite De Souza Junior ) is a Brazilian soccer player who has been playing for Betis Sevilla since January 2019 .
Career
society
Emerson started playing soccer at AA Ponte Preta . In the 2016 season , he sat on the bench for the first time with the professionals in Série A , but without being substituted on. In the 2017 season he was used twice in the Série A and in the state championship of São Paulo . After making 14 appearances (one goal) in the São Paulo state championship in the 2018 season, Emerson moved to Atlético Mineiro in April 2018 . There he was then used 23 times (one goal) in the A series.
At the end of January 2019, Emerson moved to the Spanish Primera División at Betis Sevilla on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season . At the same time, FC Barcelona announced that it had acquired the transfer rights to Emerson from Atlético Mineiro for 12 million euros from July 1, 2019 and provided him with a contract that runs until June 30, 2024. According to media reports, however, Betis Sevilla was obliged to acquire the transfer rights to Emerson on July 1, 2019 for € 6 million. FC Barcelona secured the right to get him for those 6 million euros by 2021.
Emerson joined the Betis Sevilla squad after the U20 South American Championship , which took place in Chile from January 17 to February 10, and was first used in mid-March. He completed 6 league games under head coach Quique Setién by the end of the season (4 times in the starting XI). Emerson was also in the squad of Betis Sevilla in the 2019/20 season. Under the new head coach Rubi , he was able to establish himself as a regular player in the right-back position this season and completed 33 league games (32 times from the start) in which he scored 3 goals.
National team
At the end of October 2019, Emerson was appointed for the first time by national coach Tite in the A-selection for the friendly games against Argentina and South Korea in late November . In the game against South Korea on November 19, he came on in the 88th minute for Renan Lodi .
