Juanmi (born May 20, 1993 in Coín , Andalusia ; real life Juan Miguel Jiménez López ) is a Spanish football player on the position of a striker and midfielder . He has been with Betis Sevilla in the Primera División since the 2019/20 season .

Club career

Career start at home

His career began in 1993 in the city of Coín in Andalusia born Juanmi at youth level of FC Málaga in a little more than 30 km away Málaga after, according to other sources, already in the local club Atlético Coín was in use. After a few years in the offspring, at the age of 15 he made the leap into the club's B team, which at that time was already playing in the fourth-class Tercera Division . Although he was also used at the same time in the club's own offspring, he made his debut on December 13, 2009 in a 3-1 away win over CD Vera de Almería , when he came on for Samuel in the 71st minute of play . In his second fourth division appearance on December 20, 2009 in a 1-1 home draw against Arenas de Armilla Cultura y Deporte , he was already in use for the full game. In total, he made 13 goalless championship appearances for Atlético Malagueño, the B-team of Málaga CF, this season. After a passable season, he ended up with the team in sixth place in the table in Group 9. At the same time, he brought it this season in the offspring of FC Malaga to eight games, in which he scored 14 goals. In the summer break before the 2010/11 season , Juanmi, who stood out for his performances in the B team, but especially in the club's own youth, was brought into the professional squad of the southern Spanish club as a fixed entry.

Professional debut at Málaga CF

More than half a year earlier, Juanmi made his competitive debut for the professional team on January 13, 2010. He was used in the Copa del Rey 2009/10 in the last 16 match against Getafe FC from the second half and scored the only goal of his team in the clear 1: 5 defeat. With this commitment he made himself the youngest professional debutante of the club and the youngest professional shooter in the club's history of the southern Spaniards. Just a few days later, Juanmi made his debut in the Primera División on January 17, 2010 , when he came on again in the 81st minute for the more experienced defensive player Juanito in the 1-0 home win over Getafe FC . Four more appearances as substitutes followed at the end of the 2009/10 season , in which the team just made it to 17th place in the table after being involved in the relegation battle for a long time. At the 2010/11 season opener against Valencia CF on August 28, 2010, the 16-year-old only made a brief appearance for the professional team, but made good use of his performance and was used for the first time in the following round against Real Saragossa . He scored a goal in the seventh and 29th minutes, with the team leading 5-0 for a short time after 35 minutes, only to win 5-3 in the end.

For Juanmi this was another entry in the club's history books as it became the youngest player to score for Málaga CF in the Primera División. He is also the youngest player in the league to score two goals in one game. After he played a few professional league games afterwards, things got a little quieter around the goal-scoring young striker, who in the meantime was mainly used in the B-team. Although he briefly came to appearances for the professionals in between, he actually only came to regular league appearances for the professionals from the 24th round, for which he has scored four goals in 14 league games to date (as of April 10, 2011). However, he has never been able to play the full length of the game for the professionals. Furthermore, he was also in action in the high 7-0 defeat against Real Madrid in March 2011. Parallel to his time in the Primera División, the young Spaniard also completed numerous other games for the B-team in the fourth division.

In the second half of the 2012/13 season he was loaned to Racing Santander . There he came on 19 missions in the Segunda División .

For the 2013/14 season , Juanmi returned to Málaga and received more playing times. He scored four goals in 22 league games. Juanmi made his breakthrough in the 2014/15 season . At the end of September 2014, he extended his contract to June 30, 2018. At the end of January 2015, Juanmi was shirt number 11 and was finally accepted into the first team.

Change to the Premier League

For the 2015/16 season , Juanmi moved to the Premier League for Southampton FC . He was given a four-year contract until June 30, 2019.

National team career

After he was already active with the Spanish U-16 team, he was appointed to the U-17 squad in his home country for the first time in 2009. With the team he took part in various international matches and mini-tournaments, and by the time he left the U-17 team in 2010, he had made six international matches and scored five goals. Soon thereafter, in 2011, he was called up to the U-18 team of Spain, with which he took part in the Torneo del Atlántico 2011 , the 37th edition of this youth tournament. So far (as of April 10, 2011) he has been used in two games of the U-18 team and scored as many goals. Furthermore, he was called up for the first time in April 2011 for two meetings of the Spanish U-19 national team. With the U19 selection, Juanmi won the U-19 European Championship in 2011 and 2012 .

On March 23, 2015 Juanmi was of Vicente del Bosque for the first time in the squad of the A-selection appeal. He made his debut on March 31, 2015 in the 2-0 friendly defeat against the Netherlands .
