Borja Iglesias Quintás (born January 17, 1993 in Santiago de Compostela ) is a Spanish football player who has been under contract with the first division club Betis Sevilla since August 2019 .

Career

Borja Iglesias joined the youth team at Villarreal CF in 2011 , having previously played for Valencia CF and La Roda CF. His professional career began in July 2012 when Villarreal C . In the Tercera División he scored 11 goals in 29 appearances. On July 9, 2013, he signed a two-year contract with the first division club Celta Vigo . During his time in Vigo, Iglesias played mainly for the reserve team . He made his professional debut on January 3, 2015 when he came on for Santi Mina in the 1-0 defeat by Sevilla FC in the closing stages . On December 11, 2016, Iglesias scored his 53rd goal for Celta Vigo B, making him the sole record scorer for the reserve team. In this 2016/17 season he was the top scorer in the third-rate Segunda División B with 32 goals in 37 league games .

On July 6, 2017 Borja Iglesias was loaned to the second division Real Saragossa for the entire 2017/18 season. He made his debut for the Blanquillos on August 18, 2018, the first matchday of the season, against CD Tenerife . He scored his first goal on the next match day, in a 1-1 draw against Granada CF. On the penultimate day of the match, Iglesias scored his first three-pack in the Zaragoza jersey against Real Valladolid . In 39 appearances he was able to score 22 goals for Zaragoza. Borja Iglesias scored 73 goals in 144 league games for the reserve. For the professional team Celta Vigos Iglesias came in five seasons only to a single league appearance.

On July 9, 2018, he was signed by the first division club Espanyol Barcelona to replace Gerard Moreno , who had migrated to Villarreal . The Catalans transferred a transfer fee of 10 million euros to Vigo for the striker . He made his debut on August 18, when he was in the starting line-up in the 1-1 draw against his ex-club Celta Vigo . In his next assignment he was able to score his first goal for Espanyol. In the 2-0 home win over Valencia CF he benefited in the 68th minute from a mistake by defender Cristiano Piccini . In his first season 2018/19 in the first Spanish division, he managed to replace Moreno completely and became the undisputed regular player in the attack center. He missed only one of Espanyol's 44 season games across all competitions due to a yellow card suspension. In the final spurt of the season, he contributed with two braces in the victories against Atlético Madrid and the CD Leganés that his club still reached seventh place in the table. This guarantees the Catalans participation in qualifying for the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League .

On August 14, 2019, Borja Iglesias moved to league rivals Betis Sevilla for a transfer fee of 28 million euros , where he signed a five-year contract. He followed his trainer Rubi , who joined the Verdiblancos in June. He scored his first goal on September 24, 2019 (6th matchday) in a 3-1 home win against the Levante UD . With Betis, he got off to a poor start to the 2019/20 season . Iglesias himself also fell short of the high expectations and often found himself only as a substitute behind the strong competition. Even after Rubí's dismissal, things didn't go any better for him and Betis and he ended the season with just three hits in 35 league appearances, while the Verdiblancos were placed in the lower midfield of the table.
