The Río Mulatos (in the upper reaches also Río Langoa ) is the approximately 74 km long right source river of the Río Jatunyacu in the Napo province in Ecuador .
River course
The Río Mulatos rises in the Cordillera Real , 20 km south of the Cotopaxi , at an altitude of about 4000 m . It initially flows in a predominantly east-southeast direction through the mountainous region. For the last 25 km the Río Mulatos flows east and cuts through the ridge of the Cordillera Real. Finally, the Río Mulatos meets the Río Verdeyacu coming from the north , with which it joins the Río Jatunyacu.
Catchment area
The catchment area of the Río Mulatos covers an area of around 960 km². It extends over the Cordillera Real south of the Quilindaña volcano and borders in the west and south on the catchment area of the Río Pastaza and its headwaters, the Río Patate (Río Cutuchi).
