The Jatunyacu is the left headwaters of the Río Napo in the Napo Province in Ecuador .

River course

The Jatunyacu arises at the confluence of the Río Verdeyacu and Río Mulatos . It flows over a distance of 30 km in a predominantly eastward direction. It cuts through a mountain range of the Cordillera Real that runs in a north-south direction . At river kilometer 19 the Río Llocullón flows into the river on the right side. This joins 5.5 km south of the city of Tena with the Río Anzu coming from the south to the Río Napo.

Hydrology

The catchment area of the Jatunyacu extends to the eastern flank of the Cotopaxi volcano . It covers an area of ​​around 3200 km². The mean discharge at river kilometer 18 is 296 m³ / s.
