history

Church of Rötenbach

The first documentary mention under the name "Rotinbah" comes from January 19, 819. The document is kept in St. Gallen. A local nobleman named Ruadger made a donation to the Martinskirche in Löffingen.

Since 1563 the community was in the sole possession of the house Fürstenberg . Previously there was verifiable ownership of the following religious bodies:

After the principality of Fürstenberg was dissolved, Rötenbach became part of the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806 . In the 18th and 19th centuries, Rötenbach was a craft village, with the following activities in particular:

Watchmaking spread from 1770. Since 1782 Rötenbach families in London have been running a watch shop. In Rötenbach, painting on clock plates had developed into reverse glass painting. The Winterhalder family of painters was famous for this , especially Benedikt Winterhalder, who was born on March 20, 1813.

Also violin was operated in Rötenbach, which probably came from Tyrol and Italy in the Black Forest. Famous violin makers from Rötenbach were Franz Straub and Josef Bier.

On January 1, 1975, Friedenweiler and Rötenbach merged to form the new community of Friedenweiler. What was unusual here was that Rötenbach had far more inhabitants than Friedenweiler (1970: Rötenbach: 980 inhabitants, Friedenweiler: 585 inhabitants), but the name Friedenweiler was determined for the community.
