Backwater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Backwater is a term in traffic law and describes the stalling of vehicles at a traffic light system or road crossing with at least one upstream confluence , marked entry or exit or a level crossing , regardless of whether it is restricted or unrestricted.

In the event of a backlog, a motor vehicle which, despite the right of way or a green traffic light, green arrow or green arrow, can no longer fully cross without stopping at the intersection / level crossing and blocking it, must wait in front of it (ideally on the stop line ) until the path for him can be crossed in one go. The legal basis is § 11 (1) Road Traffic Regulations Special Traffic Conditions.

Approaching from behind an emergency vehicle , must also a rescue alley be formed according to § 11 (2) Highway Code.
