Rudiger Dierstein

Rüdiger Dierstein (born April 15, 1930 , † November 26, 2010 ) was a German mathematician and computer scientist.

Life

As head of the DLR data center, Rüdiger Dierstein initially devoted himself to mathematical modeling of physical-technical processes. Early on he dealt intensively with information technology and its risks. He was one of the first to recognize the dangers and warned of malware. As a university lecturer, he was intensely committed to the integration of these topics into scientific courses. He formulated the principles for data protection and IT security at an early stage and contributed to the development of qualified training on this topic. He worked as an academic teacher at the Technical University of Munich, the Ulm Academy for Data Protection and IT Security and at the Carl Cranz Society .

Act

Dierstein's merit is the extension of the technical perspective of IT reliability to the social effects with the demand for the controllability of IT. He was particularly committed to the intersection of science / technology and society, as a teacher, lecturer, but also with initiatives in public discourse: He was a founding member of the Society for Data Protection and Data Security (GDD). As head of the Presidial Working Group on Data Protection and IT Security of the GI, he sharpened its socio-political profile in public.
