Rudiger Vischer

Rüdiger Vischer (born January 3, 1936 in Stuttgart ; † February 24, 2017 there ) was a German classical philologist .

Vischer studied philosophy , classical philology and history at the University of Tübingen , where in 1960 he passed the first state exam and in 1962 with a thesis on The Simple Life: word and motif historical studies on a concept of value of ancient literature doctorate was. He then completed his legal clerkship and, in 1963, the second state examination. From 1963 to 1998 he worked as an academic advisor at the Department of Classical Philology at the University of Tübingen and as a high school teacher.

In addition to his doctoral thesis, which was published in 1965 as the 11th issue of the series of study books on classical studies (Göttingen, Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht ), Vischer stood out in particular through his book Latin word lecture for beginners and advanced students. The book contains a selection of vocabulary that can translate 95% of the words from different Latin authors. The vocabulary distinguishes different authors and works. The first three editions appeared in 1977, 1989 and 1996 by Teubner publishing house in Stuttgart. The Vischer , as it is commonly known, has been published by Saur Verlag in Munich since 2000 . In 2007 the 4th unchanged edition was published by Walter de Gruyter (Berlin / New York).
