Rüdiger Ziehl (born October 26, 1977 in Zweibrücken ) is a former German soccer player and currently coach of the U23s at VfL Wolfsburg.

Career

The defensive all-rounder played as a youth player at SC Stambach and SG Rieschweiler. He then moved to FK Pirmasens before moving to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in 1995. There he played for seven years and played three Bundesliga games. After two years (2002 to 2004) at SV Wehen, he was drawn to TuS Koblenz, with whom he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in 2006. Ziehl could not prevail in the second Bundesliga and was transferred to the second team by coach Uwe Rapolder during the preparation for the 2009/10 season . TuS Koblenz advised him to look for a new club.

In August 2009 Ziehl signed a three-year contract with the amateurs of VfL Wolfsburg. Due to protracted injuries, however, Ziehl ended his active career in 2011 and began training in the VW Group.

For the 2012/13 season Ziehl was assistant coach of the second team at VfL Wolfsburg. After coach Lorenz-Günther Köstner succeeded Felix Magath in the first team in October , Ziehl took over the second team as interim coach until the end of the year. He then returned to his role as assistant coach, under coaches Thomas Brdaric and later Valerien Ismael. In October 2016 he took over the team as head coach and continues to train them today.

Rüdiger Ziehl has the A license and has been training to become a football teacher since May 2019.
