Rustam İbrahimbəyov or Rustam Mamed Ibrahimbekow ( Russian: Рустам Ибрагимбеков ; born January 5, 1939 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani writer , screenwriter and film producer .

Life

Rustam Ibrahimbekov studied at the Azerbaijan Institute for Petroleum and Chemistry and later at the WGIK in Moscow . He is the scriptwriter of White Sun of the Desert ( Beloje solnze pustyni , 1970), which was a cult film in the former USSR, as well as other popular films such as Bewahre mich, mein Talisman ( Chrani menja, moi talisman , 1986) and The Barber of Siberia ( Sibirskij Zirjulnik , 1998).

He also wrote the screenplay for the film The Sun That Deceives Us ( Utomljonnye solnzem , 1994), which won an award at the Cannes Film Festival and which also won an Oscar for best foreign language film in 1995 .

Rustam Ibrahimbekov was chairman of the Association of Filmmakers, Secretary of the Russian Union of Filmmakers and is a member of the European Film Academy .
