The Barber of Siberia ( Russian Сибирский цирюльник Sibirski zirjulnik , German 'Siberian Barber' ) is a Russian film from 1998. Nikita Michalkow directed the film and wrote the script together with Rustam Ibragimbekow .
The film opened the Cannes Film Festival in 1999.

In 1885, the American Jane Callahan traveled to Russia to play a decoy for the inventor McCracken. McCracken, who works on a logging machine (the "Barber of Siberia") needs the favor and support of General Radlov to finance his project. Jane is supposed to ensnare the army representative, but falls in love with the young cadet Andrei Tolstoy, whom she accidentally meets on the train on arrival. The cadet and general are at the same officers' school and there is a scandal when they both court the young woman. Tolstoy is exiled to Siberia after publicly insulting the general . Jane follows him ten years later, but only discovers his house and family.

The film was Russia's nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 1999 Academy Awards , but it was neither nominated nor awarded.
