Rīgas Vagonbūves Rūpnīca
Rīgas Vagonbūves Rūpnīca (German: Rigaer Waggonbaufabrik ; short: RVR ; Russian name: Рижский вагоностроительный завод / Rischski wagonostroitelny sawod ; short: РЗ / RWS ) is a Latvian wagon construction company .
history
The company was founded in 1885 by Oskar Freywirth as a joint stock company "Fenix" and quickly became one of the largest industrial companies in what was then the Russian Empire . Produced goods and passenger wagons , trams , as well as passenger and goods vehicles of the brand Ford .
At present, the Soviet Union produced RVR trams and railways - rail cars for the whole country. The vehicles were primarily exported to what was then Yugoslavia , Bulgaria and Cuba . Two Soviet ER200 high-speed trains were manufactured here in 1973 and 1988 .
The company had been part of Felix Holding since 2001 and later became the property of the East-West Industrial Group . In 2017, it had to file for bankruptcy due to tax debts and a lack of cash.
