R-109D "Astra-1" , also R-109M , is the name of a backpack radio device developed in the Soviet Union from the Astra series, which includes the R-105 , R-108 and R-109 devices . The R-109D was specially developed for the needs of air defense troops (frequency range: 18.5–21.5 MHz) and was introduced around 1952. The prototype Astra was developed in the late 1940s and replaced the outdated A-7 radios. The Astra series was replaced by obsolescence in 1962 with the introduction of the R-107 series .

The UM-2 power amplifier can be connected to increase the range. Built in the same housing as the R-109D, it has a transmission power of 10  watts .
