Life
Candace Hilligoss was born in 1935 in Huron, South Dakota. After three years at the University of Iowa , she went to New York to take acting classes at the American Theater Wing . She made her first appearances as a stage actress in Pennsylvania before she found employment in a theater in Cape Cod . Among other things, she was on stage at Nina Foch 's side in Idiot's Delight . After her return to New York, she appeared in various television programs and in the famous Copacabana nightclub .
In 1962, Hilligoss played her first and best-known film role as Mary Henry in the low-budget horror film Dance of the Dead Souls , which developed into a cult film in the following years . In 1964 she was seen in another horror film with The Curse of the Living Corpse . Hilligoss took on her last role in a feature film in 1971 in Südlich der Teufelsberge , a western with horror film elements.
In addition to her film career, Hilligoss also worked as a television actress. In 1962 she appeared in an episode of the crime series Merciless City . In 1981 she played the role of Kimberley in an episode of the crime series Quincy . After further appearances in documentaries on the subject of horror films, Hilligoss withdrew from show business in 2001. She still appears as a speaker and interview partner at horror conventions . In 2016 she published her biography under the title The Odyssey and The Idiocy, Marriage to an Actor, A Memoir .
Since a re-release of Dance of Dead Souls and a resurgence of interest in film in 1989, Hilligoss has encouraged the production of a sequel or remake. Although this appeared in 1998 under the title Wes Craven's Carnival of Souls ( Wes Craven was only namesake and not involved in the shooting), Hilligoss declined a role in the production due to their opinion of poor quality and deviations from the original. In the thriller Bad Girl - Murder Is No Solution , also published in 1998, you can see footage of Hilligoss from Dance of Dead Souls .
Candace Hilligoss was married to the actor Nicolas Coster until their divorce in 1981 , with whom they have two children.
