RBU-12000 on the Admiral Gorschkow

RBU-12000 (for Russian Реактивная бомбометная установка Reaktiwnaja bombometnaja ustonowka , literally "reactive bomb launcher system") is a Russian depth bomb that was developed from 1980 to replace and supplement the launchers RBU-1000 and RBU- 1000 . The Russian name is KT-153E . When assigning the NATO code name RBU-12000, under which the launcher is listed in the specialist literature, however, one orientated oneself on the comparable older weapon systems , which until then were uniformly named with the abbreviation RBU and their effective range .

description

The weapon system was developed from 1980 to replace and supplement the older types RBU-1000 and RBU-6000 . In contrast to the older systems, the main purpose of the system is not in anti-submarine hunting , but in torpedo defense. The RBU-12000 has ten gun tubes with a caliber of 300 mm attached to one gun. It can be both water bombs , acoustic decoys and mines be fired. According to the manufacturer, the expected hit rate when fighting torpedoes is 76 to 90%. Reloading takes place automatically from an ammunition magazine, which is usually located below deck directly under the launcher. Depending on the type of ship, the magazine contains 21 to 41 missiles. The system uses the ship's own sonar for target acquisition and tracking. No more than 15 seconds are required from the start of target acquisition until the missiles are fired.

The entire weapon system including fire control electronics and peripheral components is called Udaw-1 ( Russian Удав-1 , literally " Boa -1") in Russian . There is also a version Udaw-1M , which, in addition to a slightly modified launcher, mainly differs in the type of bullet used.
