The Rugby Club Mainz is a rugby sports club from Mainz .
history
In 1997 a rugby department was founded at 1. FC Vorwärts Orient Mainz . On June 21, 1999, this department became the Mainz Rugby Club. Initially, one took part in the regional leagues in Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse with a men's team. In the summer of 2002, he was promoted to the second rugby Bundesliga south. In the next season, however, they did not manage to stay up and at the end of the season they were relegated.
In the 2006/2007 season, the first men's team became champions in the Rhineland-Palatinate League and made it through the promotion tournament to the second Bundesliga South, but ended the season on a relegation zone. However, relegation was prevented by increasing the second Bundesliga to a total of ten teams. After the club was promoted to the first Bundesliga due to reforms in the 2012/2013 season and even qualified for the championship round, it played in the first Bundesliga again the following season, but after the qualifying round in the DRV Cup. In 2014 the club was relegated to the second Bundesliga. For the 2015/2016 season, he withdrew to the 3rd League South-West.
A youth team was launched in 2002 and a women's team in 2003.
