The REC Solar Holdings AS (also REC Group , shortly REC ; abbreviation for Renewable Energy Corporation ) is a Norwegian producer of solar systems and components based in Oslo . The company produces and sells silicon , wafers , solar cells , solar photovoltaic modules (PV) and complete photovoltaic systems worldwide . Between 2013 and 2015, the company's shares were traded on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Since May 2015, the company has been part of the Norwegian Elkem Group, which, through subsidiaries, belongs to the state-owned ChemChina group, one of the largest chemical companies in the People's Republic of China.

history

In 1996, Renewable Energy Corporation ASA was founded in Oslo, Norway . From 1997, production of wafers, cells and solar modules was set up in Sweden and Norway. In 2010, fully automated and integrated production followed in Singapore.

In October 2013, the Renewable Energy Corporation ASA was split into two independent companies after economic difficulties . Renewable Energy Corporation ASA was renamed REC Silicon ASA . The solar division split off as REC Solar and went public on the Oslo Stock Exchange as REC Solar Holdings AS . In May 2015, the takeover of REC Solar by the Norwegian Elkem Group was completed and the listing was discontinued. The purchase price was 490 million euros.

The REC Solar Holdings AS since May 2015 subsidiary of Elkem AS. The REC Group is headquartered in Norway and the operational headquarters in Singapore . The company also has regional offices, local representations and partnerships in Europe, the USA and the Asia-Pacific regions.

The parent company of REC Solar Holdings AS is ChemChina, one of the largest chemical companies and state-owned by the People's Republic of China, which has held its stake in Elkem since 2015 via the China National Bluestar Group.
