Cycling Altdorf
The RS Altdorf (written out Radsport Altdorf ) is a cycling club from Altdorf in Switzerland . The club has a successful cycling section , the first team is currently playing in the NLA. In addition, the association organizes the Tour d'Uri every year and also takes part in various other tours.
history
On September 19, 1907, friends of cycling founded the "Velo Club Altdorf". In 1930 the “Radler Club AllHeil” and the “Velo Club Altdorf” merged under the new name “Radfahrerverein Altdorf”. In 1960 the club was renamed the "Radfahrer- und Motorfahrerverein Altdorf".
First club activities
The first club activities were to maintain camaraderie and touring, as well as the organization of bike races . Touring has been intensively cultivated over the years and has remained an important part of the club to this day. From 1927 to 1967 the association organized the traditional Altdorf cycle races “Around Altdorf”. This tradition was revived in 1990 and continued until 1996. Other highlights were the arrival of the Tour de Suisse in 1948, the Swiss championship in 1954 for professional drivers, the arrival of the GP Tell in 1973 and the SRB youth sports days in 1977, 1981 and 1987.
Indoor cycling is making its entrance
The club members first came into contact with indoor cycling as early as 1923 in Altdorf. Despite great interest, the sport has not yet gained a foothold. Until then, in 1964, Hans Vogel and Franz Ziegler breathed life into the sport of cycling as a team.
From 1966 the club in Altdorf organized international tournaments as well as championship rounds which have continued to this day. An international cycling tournament, the Wilhelm Tell Cup, has been held in Altdorf every year since 1991. Since 1992 there has also been a bike ball tournament which takes place once a year.
The 100th anniversary in 2007 was celebrated with various anniversary activities and a big party. In 2009 the club was renamed "Radsport Altdorf". At the beginning of 2012 the association had 320 members.
In the ten-man elite squad of the national cycling team, four players from Altdorf cycling start with Dominik Planzer (* 1983), Roman Schneider (* 1983) as well as Claudio Zotter (* 1986) and Simon Marty (* 1990). Silvan Betschart (* 2000) and Yannick Fröhlich (* 2001) start in the junior squad.
