Roman Schneider (born May 17, 1982 ) is a Swiss cycling player at the RS Altdorf and cycling world champion (2012).

Career

He started his career at RMV Mosnang . In 1998 he won a gold medal in the junior division for the first time at the Swiss Championship together with Marc Meyer . In the following two years he won with Marc Meyer in the first division and the NLB and rose to the NLA. From 2001 he played with Reto Gmür and won the Swiss championship in the first year. They qualified for the 2001 World Cup , where they finished fourth. In the following years he played two years with Reto Gmür, then another year with Marc Meyer and after another year in the NLA with Markus Schönenberger he took a two year break.

Towards the end of the 2007 season he switched to Altdorf cycling and has been playing with Dominik Planzer ever since . After just a few weeks they won the World Cup final together and were even able to repeat this title two years later at the 2009 World Cup . Four Swiss Cup victories and three Swiss championship titles followed. At the 2011 World Cup , they were again able to qualify for the World Championships and finished second. The following year they even became world champions at the World Championships in Aschaffenburg . The next year they could not defend their world champion title and took bronze. Just two weeks later, they won their third overall World Cup title for it.

In November 2017 he started with Dominik Planzer at the Indoor Cycling World Championships 2017 in Dornbirn, Austria . Since Dominik Planzer ended his active career shortly afterwards, Roman Schneider will play with Paul Looser in the next season .

In March 2018 Roman Schneider and Dominik Planzer were awarded the "Altdorfer Medal".
