The Rickmers type RW 49 is a smaller type of container ship , which was developed and built by the Rickmers shipyard in Bremerhaven . After the end of the Rickmers shipyard, the type of ship was continued to be produced in Poland as the Stocznia Szczecińska B 183 .

history

The stranded wisdom

The design of the RW 49 series was based on the smaller type RW 39 . The Rickmers shipyard, which also designed the ships, built four units in several versions between 1984 and 1986. Although production in Bremerhaven was ended by the closure of the Rickmers shipyard, the RW 49 was a successful model. From October 1989, the Stocznia Szczecinska shipyard in Szczecin built 23 other ships of the basic design under the series abbreviation B 183 and some of the extended variant. In addition, the B 183 served the Polish shipyard as the basis for the even larger successor types B 186 (1,465 TEU), B 186 (1,684 TEU) and B 170 (1,730 TEU).

The RW-49 ships had four hatches that were closed with pontoon hatch covers. Two 40-tonne cranes were available as their own loading gear. In accordance with the client's wishes, various four-stroke main engines from MAN B&W, but also two-stroke engines from Mitsubishi, were used in the series.
