Raúl Abzueta

Raúl Abzueta (born September 30, 1962 in Venezuela , † February 25, 2012 ) was a Venezuelan musician , band leader , composer , author and music organizer .

Abzueta, who was a full-time social psychologist, was a guitarist, composer and music organizer; he also devoted himself to traditional and modern Venezuelan dance. He also wrote for the El Mundo newspaper . Abzueta led the formations El Merequetengue and Caracas Sincrónica . As a guitarist, he was involved in Cristóbal Soto's 1996 album Arisca . His album El Agridulce was created in 1998, followed by the albums Zafarafa and, most recently, Tábara in 2011 . He was also the founder of the formation Pomarosa , with which the productions Decir piel and Otra historia were recorded.

In 2003 he founded the Mixture Jazz band project with the pianist Víctor Morales , the aim of which was to fuse Venezuelan music with jazz ; with the group he recorded the albums Naniobo (2003) and Animal de Viento (2008). Abzueta also gave concerts in Europe. He has also hosted a number of concerts by various local groups, including group ELG4 in the VenezuelaDemo event series . Concert recordings of these events under the title El nuevo sonido de Venezuela were broadcast on TVes . Abzueta died in February 2012 at the age of 49 after a stroke .
