Raúl Valdés Vivó
Raúl Valdés Vivó (born September 21, 1929 in Mariel , † November 9, 2013 in Havana ) was a Cuban diplomat and publicist.
Life
Raúl Valdés Vivó joined the Juventud Socialista in 1946 , the youth organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC, which at that time was known as the “Socialist People's Party”). From 1957 to 1959 he attended the International Lenin School in Moscow , one of the CPSU operated training school for cadres of the Comintern . After Fidel Castro came to power in 1959, he became deputy editor-in-chief of Hoy magazine , the party's official organ, which in 1965 was absorbed by the Granma newspaper . He wrote articles for the magazines Bohemia , Verde Olivo , Cuba Socialista , Juventud Rebelde and Unión .
He was rector of the PCC Ñico López cadre school . He worked scientifically in the fields of sociology, economics, history and philosophy. In 1965 he traveled to South Vietnam with the journalist Marta Rojas as a representative of the Comité de Solidaridad con Vietnam .
In 1967 he was appointed ambassador to Phnom Penh . At the same time he was accredited at the headquarters of the Viet Cong .
