Life

Origin and family

Raban von Hörde was born as the son of Franz von Hörde zu Boke and Anna von Hoberg and came from the ancient Westphalian noble family von Hörde . His two sons John and Jost and the daughter Leneken came from the concubinage in which he lived.

Act

After the resignation of the Provost Jobst von der Recke, Raban (also called Rave or Rabe) received on April 18, 1554 from Pope Julius III. a cathedral canonical in Münster. In the diocese of Paderborn he was canon and cathedral scholaster. Bishop Bernhard von Raesfeld made him vice- nominee in 1558 after the death of his predecessor Herbord de Baer. He received the archdeaconate in Bork on August 13, 1565 and the obedience in Hiddingsel on February 18, 1570. His election as cathedral provost fell on September 23, 1569. Bishop Johann II von Hoya confirmed this election on November 4, 1569. Because of the cathedral chapter granted him certain freedoms (including residence obligation) on October 24, 1569, to the dual function of provost and cathedral scholaster in Paderborn . This decision was confirmed by the bishop on November 4, 1569. Raban made his will on January 15, 1575, stipulating that he would be buried in the Paderborn Cathedral.
