Rabigato is an autochthonous white wine variety in Portugal. There their extension was already mentioned in writing in 1771. According to the ampelograph Duarte d'Oliveira, the name has no further meaning. However, it could be the corruption of the term Rabo de gato , which means "cat's tail".

distribution

The variety has its main distribution in the region of Trás-os-Montes . The worldwide cultivation area in 2010 was 1272 ha.

Properties, wine

The medium-late ripening variety delivers fine white wines with a nice nutmeg aroma. If the vineyards are on a slope, it produces an alcohol-rich wine .
