Rachid Boudjedra

Rachid Boudjedra ( Arabic رشيد بوجدرة, DMG Rašīd Būǧidra ; * September 5, 1941 in Aïn Beïda , Algeria ) is an Algerian writer and screenwriter.

Life

Rachid Boudjedra received a traditional Muslim education in Algeria and Tunisia . In 1960 he took part in the Algerian War of Liberation and was wounded. He continued his studies in mathematics and philosophy in Algiers and France , where he received a degree in philosophy from the Sorbonne in Paris and took on teaching positions at various universities.

In his work, Boudjedra deals with childhood trauma and the contradictions of post-colonial Algerian society. At first he wrote in French. Since 1981 he has published in Arabic and translated his works into French. In addition to novels, he wrote poems, essays and scripts.
