Radio KAOS is the second studio album by British musician and former Pink Floyd member Roger Waters . The album was released on June 15, 1987 in England. It was the first album after he split from Pink Floyd in 1985.

Emergence

Like the previous and future studio albums by Waters, it is a concept album . The album covers a number of political issues from the late 1980s - monetarism and its impact on people. It also criticizes Margaret Thatcher's government, much like Pink Floyd's The Final Cut , a pre-conceived album by Waters. Other influences include 1980s pop culture and the decisions and consequences of the Cold War and its impact on world politics and society.

The album follows Billy, a mentally and physically challenged person from Wales who is forced to live in Los Angeles with his uncle David after his brother Benny was jailed after anti-government protests and lost his job in the mining industry. The album explores Billy's thoughts and views of the world through an on-air conversation between him and Jim, a DJ on a local fictional radio station called Radio KAOS

Internationally, the album reached chart positions in only two countries: No. 25 in Great Britain and No. 50 in the USA. Four singles were released from the album in 1987: Radio Waves was the most commercially successful release. In addition, Sunset Strip , The Tide Is Turning and Who Needs Information appeared . In addition, a video EP was released with the songs Radio Waves , Sunset Strip , Fish Report , Four Minutes and The Tide Is Turning (After Live Aid) .
