Radio Maria is a Roman Catholic private radio broadcaster from Italy , which was founded in 1983 as a parish radio in Erba ( Como province ).

In 1987 the “Associazione Radio Maria” (Radio Maria Association) was founded. Since 1990 the Catholic broadcaster has covered all regions of Italy. In other countries, branches were founded, which in 1998 were combined in the "Famiglia mondiale di Radio Maria" ( World Family of Radio Maria ).

Radio Maria is currently being broadcast extensively in Italy via an extensive network of FM and DVB-T transmitters, as well as across Europe via digital satellite ( Eutelsat Hotbird ) and worldwide via live stream. The average daily reach in Italy is 1,765,000 listeners (1st semester 2008).

The program can also be received in parts of Tyrol , East Tyrol and Carinthia via transmitters near the Austrian border .
