Radioligand

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A radioligand is a substance used in biochemistry , pharmacology and related sciences that is labeled with a radionuclide and can bind as a ligand to a target protein , for example a receptor .

properties

If a radioligand is used diagnostically or therapeutically as a drug , it is also referred to as a radiopharmaceutical . Radioligand found in radioligand binding studies , scintigraphy , positron emission tomography (PET) and single photon emission computed tomography ( Engl. Single photon emission computed tomography , short SPECT ) application. Both the pharmacological properties of the ligand ( affinity , selectivity ) and the radiochemical properties of the radionuclide (type of radiation , activity , half-life ) determine the type of application of a radioligand . Radioligand are radio isotope label generated in antibodies or immunoconjugates the marker is as immunolabeling , respectively.
