Radium sulfate (Raso 4 ) is the radium - salt of sulfuric acid .

Extraction and presentation

The radium sulfate can be obtained by enrichment by boiling radium-containing salt solutions and solid barium sulfate for a long time. In the barium sulfate, the barium ions are replaced by radium ions until equilibrium is reached. Pure radium sulfate is produced by adding soluble radium salt solutions, e.g. B. the chloride, with a soluble sulfate, e.g. B. sodium sulfate , implemented.

In its pure state, radium sulfate consists of white rhombic crystals that turn yellow over time, caused by radiolysis . Radium sulfate is sparingly soluble in water. It is isomorphic with barium sulfate BaSO 4 and the sulfate with the lowest known solubility at all. The solubility increases noticeably in concentrated sulfuric acid .
