Münsterland cycling region

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Münsterland cycling region describes a tourist cycling network with a route length of over 4,500 km and a route mainly away from road noise . Many of the cycle paths lead over the so-called Pättkes - quiet agricultural paths. The Münsterland eV Tourismus calls the signposted network honeycomb . The edge line of a honeycomb forms a round tour of 10 to 30 km in length, which of course can also be combined with the edge lines of the neighboring honeycombs. The bike paths run along the honeycomb borders. The numbers of the neighboring honeycombs result in the number of the cycle path. The cycle path between Wabe 29 and 31 has the number 29 | 31. Certain combined honeycomb edge lines form parts of the long-distance cycle routes or so-called themed routes such as the European Cycle Route R1 , 100-Schlösser-Route , EmsAuenWeg , Römerroute , Dortmund-Ems Canal Route and Peace Route . Each of the numbers 1 to 199 denotes a honeycomb and these numbers can also be found on the bike signs. Over 3,000 signposts with kilometers to the long-distance and local destinations as well as more than 15,000 intermediate signposts guide the guest safely through the Münsterland. The symbols of the themed cycle paths are also integrated into the signposts. The Münsterland has more than 200 circuits that can be combined with one another as required.

Cyclists can use a service number to report damage or missing signs to the State Office for Road Construction in North Rhine-Westphalia directly from their location . The Münsterland was the first region in North Rhine-Westphalia to introduce complete signage for its cycle paths. Contrary to the usual signposting as the shortest route between two points, the signposting in the Münsterland also takes tourist attractions into account .

In addition to the signposting in nature, there are special maps and planning maps as well as GPS data for numerous themed routes.

Regional bike routes

The regional cycle routes usually only lead through the Münsterland area. Even so, some cycle routes are amazingly long. The 100 castles route has a total length of 960 km on its four circuits.

The regional bike tours each have a different focus. They are signposted using special signs and most of them use the official network of cycle paths. This results in interesting combination options.

River bike paths

Cross-border bike paths

The cross-border cycle paths in Münsterland all lead from Westmünsterland to the Netherlands , where they are integrated into the Dutch cycle network. There are six tourist landmarks along the border to better link the cycle paths . In addition to a parking lot for cars, there are information boards with maps and descriptions of the cycle paths.
