Radu Ardevan

Radu Ardevan (born December 17, 1951 in Cluj ) is a Romanian ancient historian , archaeologist, epigraphist and numismatist .

He graduated from school in his hometown in 1970 and studied history at the Babeș-Bolyai University there until 1974 . He then worked as an archivist and palaeographer until he got a job at the National Museum of the History of Transylvania in 1979 . There he was initially responsible as an archaeologist for excavation work and the protection of cultural heritage, from 1981 he was also in charge of the local coin cabinet . In 1985 he moved to the Museum's Department of Ancient History. From 1990 he held teaching positions at his alma mater .

In 1992 Ardevan became a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Archeology and Art History in Cluj-Napoca, which is part of the Romanian Academy . In 1994 he received his doctorate based on a thesis on urban life in the Roman province of Dacia , which was also published as a monograph in 1998. In 2002 he was finally appointed associate professor at Babeș-Bolyai University, and in 2013 full professor. Radu Ardevan received his habilitation in 2014 .

In addition to epigraphy and numismatics, his focus is on ancient social history. He is a member of various Romanian and Hungarian scientific societies and the Association Internationale d'Epigraphie Grecque et Latine . In 2000 he received the Vasile Pârvan Prize of the Romanian Academy for his dissertation published in 1998, the award "Teacher of the year" at his university in 2009 and the prize for didactic excellence there in 2017 .
